Dust – the wanted life

DUST is the adventure of eight physically and mentally disabled persons who have been living in the Cottolengo Institute of Turin for over fifty years. This is neither a script nor an attempt to tell their discomfort.Through a creative artistic path revolving around theatre, these characters in search of an author stage themselves and the life that they would like to lead. This study resulted in a theatrical trilogy precisely entitled Polvere (Dust).

“I regard this small group of actors as survivors. Survivors of an old age, who perform the play of life, – the desired life instead of the real one – through the theatre. And then they look like the heroes of this dream, a Ulysses in love with his Penelope, a minnesinger disguised as a sailor peering at other places, other races and other feelings with his binoculars, a buffoon dressed as the Pink Panther mocking an entire Parliament which focuses on the eternal battle on the cry of “Vote for me!”, a dumb actor who has fun with silent movies playing the part of Charlot and a Snow White, who does not know her age and is secretly in love with the seven dwarfs.”

DUST ist das Abenteuer von acht körperlich und geistig eingeschränkten Personen, die seit über fünfzig Jahren, in der Einrichtung „Cottolengo“ in Turin leben. Dieses Drehbuch ist kein Versuch über ihr Handikap zu berichten.

Unsere Geschichte kreist, mit Hilfe des Theaters, über kreative und künstlerische Pfade, um das Leben und ihre Suche danach. Die Charaktere inszenieren sich selbst und ihr Leben, das sie gerne führen würden, sie sind Autor und Akteur zugleich auf ihrer eigenen Bühne. Aus dieser gemeinsam Arbeit, ist eine Theatertrilogie entstanden, genannt „DUST“.

“Ich halte diese kleine Gruppe von Schauspielern für Überlebende. Überlebende einer alten Zeit, die das Spiel des Lebens, arrangieren – das gewünschte Leben, anstatt der Wirklichkeit – über das Theater.Sie sehen aus wie Helden aus diesem Träumen, von Odysseus verliebt in seine Penelope, der Minnesänger verkleidet als Matrose – forschend an anderen Orten, anderen Menschen und anderen Gefühlen, mit seinem Fernglas. Der Hanswurst verkleidet als Pink Panther, ein spöttisches Parlament das sich auf die ewige Schlacht vorbereitet – mit dem Schrei “Vote for me!”, ein stummer Schauspieler, der Spaß an Stummfilmen hat – in der Rolle des Charles Chaplin, dann das Schneewittchen, das ihr Alter nicht kennt, und heimlich verliebt ist in die sieben Zwerge.” (Gabriele Falsetta)

But I did not want to obtain another denunciation report or a superficial praise of madness.Gabriele, in this little gem, was able to tell the story of eight persons through the poetry and dignity of someone who offers a performance without voyeurism, but rather through the theatre which turns into mask and amplification at the same time.They are all actors playing themselves and, for once, we should just watch without judging, smile without complaisance and emotionally imagine their lives without criticizing.
